Newborn Sessions Mom & Baby Sessions Couples & Family Sessions First Birthday Sessions The First Year Collection The Folio About Tammy Book a Session
The First Year · A three-session collection

A year is longer than two weeks.

A newborn session captures about a fortnight of the most rapidly changing year of a person’s life. This collection books all three milestones at once — newborn, sitting up, first birthday — so none of them slip past in the blur.

Chapter One
First Days
Newborn session · 0–14 days

Three chapters, one story

Parents rarely mean to miss these. What happens is that the newborn session goes beautifully, the gallery arrives, everyone cries, and then the next eleven months disappear into feeding and sleeping and work. By the time anyone thinks about photographs again, the baby is walking and the small curled thing is gone for good.

Booking all three at the start removes the decision from the exhausted middle of the year. Your dates exist before you need them, and Tammy is the one keeping track of the calendar.

Chapter One · 0–14 days

Newborn

Curled, sleepy, impossibly small. Photographed at home in the first two weeks, while they still fold back into the shape they held before they arrived.

  • 45–75 minutes, paced to the baby
  • In-home across Northern Virginia
  • 15+ finished images
BookedDuring pregnancy
Chapter Two · 6–8 months

Sitting Up

The first pose they hold on their own. Eye contact, a real laugh, hands that reach for the lens — an entirely different child from Chapter One.

  • 45–60 minutes
  • In-home or on location
  • 15+ finished images

Chapter Three · 11–13 months

First Birthday

Standing, cruising, occasionally covered in cake. The year closes with the child they became — and the three chapters hang together as one set.

  • 60–75 minutes

Fourteen days and twelve months, photographed by the same hand in the same tones. Hung together, the difference is the whole point of the collection.

And then, every year after — The Portrait Year

The first year ends and the growing does not. The Portrait Year is one family sitting annually, on a standing date you pick once and keep: the first Saturday of October, the week before Thanksgiving, whichever you will actually remember.

  • Your rate held at $425 for three years, whatever else changes
  • First pick of autumn weekends, a fortnight before dates open publicly
  • Each year’s prints made to match the last, so a wall builds properly
  • No automatic charge, and no obligation — Tammy asks each year

Families who do this end up with something no single session produces: a staircase of frames where the children visibly grow and everyone else quietly ages beside them.

Questions, answered

What exactly is included?

Three separate sessions: newborn at 0-14 days, sitting up at 6-8 months, and first birthday at 11-13 months. Each one is a full session with its own planning call and its own private gallery of finished images. The collection is $895, against $1,050 if the same three were booked one at a time.

When do I pay?

A deposit reserves the collection when you book. The balance can be paid in full at the newborn session or split across the three sessions - whichever suits. Nothing is charged for rescheduling.

What if we move away, or something changes?

Any unused sessions are refunded in full. Tammy would rather return the money than hold onto it for a session that is never going to happen.

Do we have to remember to book each one?

No, and that is rather the point. Tammy holds your child's birth date and writes to you when each window opens - around five months for the sitting-up session, and about six weeks before the first birthday. You reply with a preferred weekend.

Can we start partway through?

Yes. If you have found this after the newborn window has closed, a two-session version covering sitting up and the first birthday is available - mention it in your note and Tammy will quote it.

What happens after the first year?

Most families move to The Portrait Year: one family sitting annually on a standing date, with the rate held for three years and first pick of autumn weekends. There is no obligation, and no automatic charge - Tammy asks each year.

Will the three galleries look like a set?

Yes. That is a deliberate part of the collection. All three are edited in the same tones with the same hand, so the frames hang together on a wall rather than looking like three different photographers over twelve months.
